Extract and heat-recovery ventilation

Ventilation balancing companies for your buildings

Whistling terminals, poorly ventilated top-floor flats, condensation, odours: a badly adjusted ventilation system does not renew air where it should. A balancing company measures flow at each terminal, adjusts the system and records the values in a report.

Systems covered

  • Self-regulating and humidity-controlled extract ventilation in apartment buildings.
  • Heat-recovery ventilation in housing and commercial buildings.
  • Ventilation of offices, schools, healthcare buildings, car parks.
  • Roof extract fans, fan boxes, ductwork and terminals.

How ventilation balancing is carried out

  • Fan checks: rotation, speed, available pressure, filter condition on heat-recovery units.
  • Airflow measurement at each terminal with a flow hood or anemometer.
  • Adjustment of terminals, riser dampers and fan speed.
  • Check of riser pressures and required airflow per dwelling or room.
  • Balancing report: design flow, measured flow and deviation for each terminal.

Checks at handover

For housing, French standard DTU 68.3 covers the installation and checking of ventilation systems. The client may also require airflow testing to a recognised protocol. The report issued by the balancing company serves as evidence at handover.

Finding a ventilation balancing company on Metteur au Point

1. Describe the project

Post a free project request: building type, systems involved (extract or heat-recovery ventilation), drawings and specifications if you have them, timescale.

2. Network companies reply

Interested commissioning companies send you an anonymous quote to compare on substance: method, measuring equipment, timescale, price.

3. You choose, no commission

Accept the quote that suits you and then work directly with the chosen company. No commission on the job.

Frequently asked questions

Does self-regulating ventilation need balancing?

Self-regulating terminals only deliver their flow within a pressure range. System pressure must therefore be checked and adjusted so that each terminal works within its range, especially on long risers.

Which instrument is used?

Mainly a flow hood placed over the terminal, supplemented by an anemometer or micromanometer for pressures. Instruments must be calibrated and their calibration date shown on the report.

How much does ventilation balancing cost?

It depends on the number of terminals and dwellings, access to lofts or ducts and the deliverable required. Post a project request to compare several quotes.
